b'DEMOGRAPHICS Age Bracket ComparisonThe demographics of First Baptist show we are aOF ABILENE AND FIRST BAPTISTmultigenerationalchurchwithalargenumberof highlyeducated, professionalcongregants. Many ofourfolkshavebeenmembersforoverthirty years, and we tend to be older than the average age in our city. When we discussed age brackets inourchurchduringoursecondcongregational conversation, we expressed the hope that we will increaseengagementof youngergenerationsin thefuture, buildinglongevitywiththem, while maintaining our rich heritage of strong leadership from older congregants. Ethnic demographics for Abilene indicate that 62% ofthepopulationiswhite(non-Hispanic).While First Baptist does not collect ethnic information on congregants, it is clear that we have an even higher percentageofwhite(non-Hispanic)personsthan the city.Current Year (2022)RACIAL/ETHNIC PERCENTAGESAbilenes average median income (based on 2019OF ABILENEstatistics) is $50,659, which is about $11,000 below1.9%thestateaverage;however,ourcityalsohasa lower cost of living than the average in the state.2.5%Abilene workers are 60% white collar and 40% blue8.9%collar. While First Baptist collects no economic data24.7%related to congregants, it appears that our average median income would be significantly higher than the Abilene figure, and we estimate the number of white-collar workersin thechurchatabout80%. Long-termobserversofthecongregationalso62%estimate that our church has become relatively more diverse in its socio-economic percentages over the last few decades. One of the results of the second congregationalconversation wastheconviction that while City Light, our churchs social ministry arm, serves a diverse population, we would like for the rest of our congregation to reflect more of the ethnic, economic, and overall diversity of our city.11'
